Ying-Chia Huang is from Taiwan and is in her fourth year of study towards her PhD in ‘fashion design methods’ at Heriot-Watt University, in the UK. She is from a background in creative design realization as a fashion designer. Her study focuses on design realization towards creating actual garments and presenting the measurements of the design concepts. Her concepts come from the theory that everyone can design highly creative garments, but not everyone can realize them. She hopes that her methods can bring design drawings and garment creation together. She holds her first fashion exhibition in December 2011, in Borders Textile Towerhouse, Hawick.
I've working my PhD research in Heriot-Watt University since 2008.
Since 2003, “I ．Wear． Mine” is a major design concept, which against fashion trend and brand, for this sculptural form fashion design collection. During these 8 years, I was studying my bachelor and work on my PhD research now. I am sick of pretend I am a fashion person because of wearing fashion brand garment. I felt boring that garments printed different flat pattern and image only. I knew I am fashion and do not follow world fashion trend while I wear my sculptural garment comfortably.
This is a way to communicate with others such as a game that we play to exchange our diaries when we cross by eye contact. When you witness I wear the sculptural garment, which stamps my hand madly graffiti on both textile and shape and illustrates my life style. Body, which consists of skin and perception, represents ego physically. The space between body and garment is a second skin, which portrays a movement as an impacting between out of body and inside the body. Garment is a material, which symbolizes a stage and third skin. It is a path that we intercross our life as landscape. Now is a post Europe design era, which is post 20th century that most famous fashion designers built their boutiques in the Europe. Taiwan is going to present a Taiwan style design, which composes of good implement ability and no more copy.
